Hiring Competent Workers in the Office Cleaning Services

The attitude of your employees and workers regarding their jobs is a reflection of your cleaning business. That is why the manpower you hire is an extremely important point to consider. Your clients will certainly love your cleaning service if your employees and cleaning workers are very professional. However, if you employ cleaning workers that are tardy and slow and does not get the job done, then your client would try out some other cleaning service. So before you start to build your cleaning business, first you should find yourself some good and capable workers.

If you are planning to hire some manpower, then you can opt to get your staff from agencies or you can hire them directly. It may be more cost effective to hire your workers who have janitorial or cleaning services. This indeed may be helpful but you must remember that you are still responsible in giving your new staff the proper training and orientation. You should also teach them on hoe to properly use the equipment and the cleaning aids, as well as how to adapt their cleaning styles to suit the liking of the clients.

There are a few ways that can help you when hiring new staff for your cleaning business. The first one you should do before hiring any worker is to request a list of references of all their previous employers. This is called a background check and is not being rude; this just ensures you that you are getting the right employee for the job. Contact each and every reference that the applicant put down and ask them of he or she was trustworthy and efficient during his stay under their care. This will assure you that the applicant you are planning to get is really worthy of your trust and is a hard worker that will be an asset to your company.

Now that you have acquired the needed number of new employees for your cleaning service, the next thing you should do is to put down the rules and regulations that will govern your business. It is very important that you make a handbook for your staff to refer to and study so that they will know what they can and can not do while working under you. It is also important to ask them if they have any queries regarding the guidelines and rules you have set up. Once they understand all the information, then you can go to the next step.

It may seem that a cleaning business will not need much skill because it does not require any special education or training but you must always keep in mind that you must still guide your workers on how to do the cleaning in a proper and orderly manner. Not only must you train them to do the usual cleaning jobs like taking out the trash, dusting, wiping, vacuuming, and sweeping but you must also teach them on how to put on a proper decorum and proper dress attire when going to work. This also includes wearing of proper uniform and being courteous. Guide your workers so that they will also display a friendly and proper attitude towards your customers most especially on how to do their cleaning without interrupting the customer’s daily activities.

And since you are the employer, it is also your responsibility to train your people on how to act as professionally as possible while also practicing safety measures. You must also teach them on how to act when emergency situations arises.

Also, it is always necessary to hire some staff so as to be able to earn more than $30,000 every year in salary because it is down right impossible for you to do it alone. You just can not divide your time between doing the cleaning and managing your business. Since you are the operator of the cleaning service, you and only you have the right and capability to train your crew on how to do the work which can leave you free in operating your business, doing the marketing, making contracts with clients, making the invoices, ordering the supplies and all the other activities that are related to the day to day operations of the business. Even if you are an experienced cleaner, it is still important to train your staff so that they will help you out when the time gets busy. It is also your duty to look after your staff by making sure that they have access to using your cleaning equipments as well as being properly instructed in using them

And because the people of your staff are doing the actual cleaning, they have a higher risk of being exposed to virulent and pathogens such as Hepatitis B and other contagious microorganisms. So it is up to you to make sure that they have received all the vaccinations needed to protect themselves from all the biohazards that are exposed to them in the work place.

Ergonomic injuries are also common so you must teach them on how to lift things properly and do things in ways that are conforming to the proper body mechanics. Tasks such as lifting and other repetitive motions can be reduced significantly if you instruct them on the proper way of lifting objects and other various tasks. This will significantly reduce the incidence of back pains and other work related injuries that may come upon your staff and workers.

You should make it clear to your employees what are the working arrangements right from the very beginning. You must specifically state the working hours and salary along with other relevant details that they need to know off. You must also set what you want and expect from your staff such as responsibilities, punctuality, and dress codes among others.

But in hiring new staff, all the paperwork and obligations involved can be somewhat of a hassle especially since you are only running a small business. You should check with the IRS and other departments so as to ensure that you are complying with all the conditions that are needed for your new hired employees.
