The MSDS or material safety data sheet is the end result that may be used by your personnel to be apprised of the danger and sensitivity of the compounds used in performing your contracted task. Simple issuance is not sufficient, for this would be a mere scrap of paper unless supported by adequate instructions for its use.

The learning activities must be designed to allow the staff to obtain the necessary know-how. And this would entail a bit of preparation, from making handouts to the pedagogical techniques necessary to impart the necessary knowledge. Since there may just be too much ground to cover, it would be best that you prepare the learning into different modules for particular chemicals used. You can plan it by step or by item, and they would be much more effective and easier to recall by the employees. Just emphasize on the particular items you wish to give stress to when making your presentation.

The MSDS sheet should be included in a kit that is easily accessible, to ensure familiarity if an emergency does occur. Also, having the proper labels in containers and exhibiting them to reinforce the learning process. Also, having a quick-index of terms would be great in assisting the employees recall the proper information.

It is paramount that the employees understand the importance and value of the MSDS sheet. The kit would include many important facts on health and precautions to be undertaken for the chemicals in the workplace. These include emergency first aid measures that can spell the difference in avoiding mortal injury. It also provides the guidelines on safety clothing before handling products.

Since there is much to learn, there are some ways to make this easier. Here are few guidelines for it.

Take a sample of the MSDS and have employees find in the quick index provided terms they are not familiar with.

Make them comfortable with the MSDS and run through each of the pages so that the specified information would be easily accessible.

Discuss the medical consequences of possible scenarios, and reiterate procedures for handling and first aid.

Make an exercise as f proper identification of harmful chemicals with the labels in used

Take all in a step-by-step review of the safety procedures for each chemical, its proper storage and use procedures, and the disposal of materials.

Do not forget to mention those special precautions for inflammable compounds and the disposition of all the materials used in the job, from transport to waste disposal.

As stipulated by law, the maker of the compounds is required to submit the MSDS produced. Employees that are properly trained and has easy access to the materials would make the workplace safe and sound for all. Also a well trained and well equipped staff would be able to provide professional work and be able to address issues that may come along with the chemicals used in the cleaning service.

Cleaning companies have different approaches in performing their tasks – all of them are intended to maximize employee efficiency for bigger company profit. Cleaning companies usually use either zone cleaning or team cleaning in their business approach. The choice will all depend on the nature of the place to be cleaned and the kind of employees the cleaning service has.

First, we have to differentiate between zone cleaning and team cleaning. Zone cleaning involves the use of a single employee to do all the cleaning tasks in a particular area of a building – a zone. The zone could be a specific floor of the building which an employee has to take care of, an area that the employee may consider to be “his own”. Said employee will get to be familiar with all the aspects of the area he is assigned to, knowing the ins and outs, and developing a deep sense of responsibility. It will also minimize security problems as there will be only one person who will have access to that particular zone of the building during cleaning time. The common problem in the cleaning business – boredom, will be eliminated as the cleaner assigned to a particular area will have a variety of tasks to perform.

Team cleaning, on the other hand, identifies the different tasks to be performed in cleaning a building and assigned those tasks to different groups or employees. Each employee, or group of employees, will have to perform only a single task for the entire building or cleaning area. Each group will go from one area to another doing their specific task while another group will follow doing a different one. Cleaning tasks in zone cleaning are normally broken down as follows:

•	Light Duty – This involves the tasks of emptying trash cans, dusting, and spot cleaning. The members of the team will go from room to room doing only this particular duty.

•	Vacuum Team – The team’s only function is to vacuum carpets and hard floors.

•	Restroom Cleaners – They clean, sanitize and restock restroom supplies.

•	Utility team – They clean lobbies, spot clean glasses, scrub and mop hard floors, and take out trash to dumpsters.

One advantage of team cleaning is the specialization involved. An employee who is doing the same task over and over again becomes a sort of specialist in that given field. The employee becomes very skilled and efficient in the task assigned to him, saving on man hour needed to finish a particular job. This will translate to bigger profit for the cleaning business. There will be no need of training each employee on all aspects of cleaning – a task that could both be time consuming and expensive.

But before you make your decision on whether to use zone cleaning or team cleaning, you first have to take a close look at the building to be cleaned. One building is different from another; they have different needs and therefore different cleaning approaches. Use a cleaning approach that will best suit the needs and conditions of the building to be cleaned.

Residential cleaning is no longer a grubby task for lowly hands. It is now considered as an important chore and it has even grown in scope as a business endeavor. Without the required degree or process, home cleaning has created a steady stream of income for many people. One just needs to start small and then progress from there. The only differences in business would be the higher cost of the first service and straight line payments for succeeding ones. The contract could even be entered into during construction of the house, but this requires a little more expert equipment due to its specialized dirt and grime that need be managed.

A good level of service quality is important to sustain and grow a business. One needs repeat clients and not just one shot deals. So by providing a high quality of work, one would be wanted more and more by prospective clients. By engaging in frequent feedback, one would be better attuned to the client and thus leave the competition biting the dust.

One also needs to provide more for the client. Flexible working hours, and last minute requests are sure fire ways to keep the client pampered. This must not be a mere promise but a clear cut deliverable obligation, and this can be addressed by teams working in shifts. If the job is really big, one can even outsource temps until the business grows and later make them permanent employees.

Also, tireless networking is key to make the client base grow. Being updated with trends and having a god ad campaign in newspapers and in high density areas makes one visible in the market. This would help in making the company a better option for the services currently being enjoyed. Another way to hook clients is offering complimentary cleaning services for those who are identified by existing clients. The more people knowing your business, and the quality of work one provides would surely make the business thrive. Making a good impression and reminding them that you are the best option for the service would surely have them eating out of the palm of one’s hand.

The proper equipment is also needed for the best offering package. Manual services are best but having the proper equipment increases one’s quality of service and efficiency. With more equipment, headcount can be lowered yet still retain the service level one has agreed upon. It may be a one time expense, but the rewards are long term. So, when purchasing tools, go for quality and reliability and not just cost of the item. An option would be leasing equipment, but that would depend on availability and a job uncovered is profit lost.

Home cleaning is burgeoning business with specialized skills and equipment needed for the tasks at hand. Experience is the best guide for the work ahead. So with hard work at all jobs, networking and marketing for clients and the right equipment for efficiency and effectivity, one can surely grow and thrive in the business of home cleaning.

Cleaning may seem to be a simple task to an ordinary individual. However, to one who is engaged in this line of business, cleaning is a serious business. The quality of service provided is the deal maker of deal breaker for a going concern. In addition, in this highly competitive field of business, one dissatisfied client may spell disaster to a small business. So how can one maintain the quality of service? One must have the tools for the job. Here are the basic tools for the job of cleaning.

1)	A keen eye for detail
Having a keen eye for detail is one of the basic tools in the business. Being able to spot an unclean spot or seeing how dust settles on a table is key to quality service. Making the difference in making clean room out of an untidy one is one of the hallmarks for a business to improve. If one fails in even one aspect, such as finding cobwebs in supposed clean room would be disappointing to one supposedly obsessed with cleaning. So to be able to succeed in this line of work, one must not just say this is enough but what more can be done to make the room cleaner and better.

2)	The patience for the job
The business of cleaning is not one sweep and all is done. The cleaning would be done in gradual steps in order to achieve a quality service. In addition, removing a blemish or making floors shine cannot be done with a few light dabs of cleaning fluid. There must be patience in removing the stain and the will to make the sore spot disappear. So for one to succeed, one needs the perseverance and the patience to make the client have a cleaner and more environmentally sound workplace. A clean area would make a satisfied client.

3)	The resiliency to do the job again and again
This is probably the most important virtue of the job. Since one does the job only to be soiled by others, one needs the resiliency to be able to return to the jobsite and do the cleaning all over again. Above this work is the requirement of quality service to be provided. So in essence, one repeats the job repeatedly. Thus, the need to be resilient against these odds is paramount. If one were unable to find the will to be able to perform well under these circumstances, one would have a bigger problem in the end.

One might think that at the outset of this article, the broom and the mop would be discussed. These are but implements that would change as the business matures. But the basic tools of having a keen eye for detail, having the patience for the job and ingraining the resiliency do repeatedly do the job are the best implements one needs to have to accomplish the job of cleaning with quality. These are the building blocks, everything else are details.
